Edinburgh festival triumphs

Comedy shows have swept the board for awards handed out at the Edinburgh TV festival.

BBC One sitcom Outnumbered was named best terrestrial programme, ahead of Doctor Who, The X Factor, Harry Hill's TV Burp and Flash Forward.

In the non-terrestrial category, E4 youth sitcom The Inbetweeners beat 30 Rock, Glee, Newswipe With Charlie Brooker and Pineapple Dance Studios to the prize.

The ceremony, hosted by Jack Whitehall, also honoured Channel 4 as terrestrial channel of the year and BBC Three non-terrestrial channel of the year.
