Kevin McCarthy – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

Grumpily amusing McCarthy's act seems very dated - gags about shiny toilet paper, small knobs and even Quasimodo abound. However, he has got a certain charm, and some of his off-the-cuff comments raise a genuine laugh.

It may sound a bit snobbish, but he's very popular with audiences who haven't seen much stand-up, whereas the positively prehistoric choice of subject is offputting for the more comedy literate. That said, he does rise above the material on more than one occasion, to produce a handful of unexpected chuckles.
