Mel Giedroyc injures herself trying not to crack up on Last One Laughing

comedyMel Giedroyc tried so hard not to crack up during Last One Laughing that she injured her jaw.

The comic can often be seen in the new series contorting her face to suppress a laugh that would have her eliminated from the competition.

Speaking at a launch screening she confirmed that she was consulting with a leading specialist – and ‘lovely guy’ – called Tim Cascarini, who has extensive experience in treating complex conditions affecting the mouth, jaw, and face.

‘I've done something to the right jowl because I was so into that move,’ she said of the peculiar pose she adopted

‘Tim Cascarini is gonna sort it out. You give the area Botox, that’s what he's suggesting…  up there, just in the right side.’

Fellow contestant Alan Carr filmed Last One Laughing fresh from his victory in Celebrity Traitors.

He said: ‘I had the weirdest time last year. Being in two shows that everybody loved. But this was harder than murdering national treasures and close friends like Paloma Faith.’

But he added that resisting his natural urge to laugh was a peculiar experience. ‘We felt weird, didn't we, when we left. It was so strange…  I just felt so flat and deflated.’

Meanwhile, Romesh Ranganathan said that his heart sank when he saw defending champion Bob Mortimer enter the room.

He said: ‘You wanna see Bob Mortimer anywhere, apart from in that house? It’s like, fuck that guy, in that context. He's an enemy in that room  – you don't want him anywhere near you.’

Ranganathan also said he thought he’d have a chance at making Carr crack up – but it often backfired.

‘I do think Alan is a problem because he's easily takedownable, but you could get caught in the crossfire,’ he explained.

‘There's a couple of times where I thought, "I'm going to give him a nudge here because I think he'll go". But then everything he does was designed in a lab to be hilarious – everything. So you'd walk over and he'd just be like trying to cut a cake and go, "Where the hell is the knife? And then, fuck, move away, move away. It's gonna get you.

‘So it felt so tempting to go to him, but at the same time you could sacrifice yourself in the process.’

Maisie Adam had the same problem with Giedroyc, saying: ‘Mel's on the verge of a giggle for 90 per cent of her life. So you go over going, "oh, get Giedroyc, Giedroyc might go."

‘Then you go over and you give it a go and actually it just starts infecting you. It sort of bounces back.

‘So you go with all the bravado and then have to sort of immediately turn on your heel and run towards a wall or suddenly find fruit interesting [to distract yourself from laughing].’

The season two cast also includes Gbemisola Ikumelo, David Mitchell, Amy Gledhill, Diane Morgan and  Sam Campbell, with Jimmy Carr returning to host and Roisin Conaty as his sidekick.

Conaty said it was a dream role as ‘you've got the best comics in the country doing a private gig, and you get to watch it – and you haven't got to do a performance.’

The first episodes of Last One Laughing season two drop on Amazon Prime tomorrow.
