Firm opens a new branch

The bakery co-owned by Romesh Ranganathan is opening another branch.

Coughlans Bakery is to open in Horsham, Sussex, joining 31 existing sites in the South East of England.

Writing on social media, owner Sean Coughlan said: ‘We have the keys… You may not have heard of us but you may know our co-owner Romesh Ranganathan and we can’t wait to open our first Horsham shop in a few weeks’ time.’

Ranganathan became a shareholder in the company in November after becoming friends with the Coughlan family.

At the time he posted: ‘For years I’ve loved @coughlansbakery and the innovative stuff they’re doing, particularly with plant based stuff. I’m delighted to say I’m now part of the firm/partner/head sampler.’

In backing the company, he became the first non-family member to join the board in its 87-year history.

In February the comic was pictured working behind the counter at branches in Dorking and his Crawley hometown to launch a vegan treat he designed, the Ranga Yum Yum.
