‘If the boys can do it, why can't the girls?’

American comic Natasha Leggero stunned a comedy club audience when she stripped to the waist  to perform topless.

The stand-up said she was striking a blow for equality as she aped ‘party animal’ comic Bert Kreischer, who was on the bill before her and always performs with his shirt off.

She told the crowd at the Hollywood Improv: ‘If the boys can do it, why can't the girls?’

Video of the gig posted on TMZ.com shows the audience erupting, with one man heard repeatedly yelling: ‘Holy shit!’ and ‘Fuck yeah’

She then put her jacket back on before continuing her set, about becoming a mother.

It all happened at Skyler Stone's Comedy Rocks event, which mixes comedy and music, with last week’s gig also featuring the likes of David Spade and Tiffany Haddish.

Leggero’s credits include Ugly Americans, Brickleberry and Free Agents, and the Honeymoon Stand Up Special,  with her husband Moshe Kasher, which was released by Netflix in 2018.
