comedyComedians fronting cookery shows are suddenly all the rage, with John Bishop and Jason Manford piloting culinary family cook-offs, and Sandi Toksvig, Noel Fielding, Jo Brand and Tom Allen all part of the Bake-Off franchise.

Unfortunately, we may never get to see the unlikeliest pairing of gastronomic experts: Kirsty Wark and wrestler Grado.

The Newsnight presenter and Scot Squad star were chosen to be team captains on Picture Dish, a pilot for the new BBC Scotland channel in which they were joined by celebrity chefs recreating dishes solely from a picture.

Alas, the corporation declined to take the show to series. Instead, BBC Scotland has commissioned Corner Shop Cook Off, presented by Clare Grogan, as chefs compete to create dishes with ingredients sourced only from convenience stores.

Wark is a former Celebrity Masterchef contestant who hosted the BBC Two food quiz A Question Of Taste, while as PC Hugh McKirdy, Grado has also shown himself to be a food lover, rhapsodising about the 3,000-calorie, Glaswegian doner meat-heavy delicacy, The Munchy Box:
