Three Lions back on top | Baddiel and Skinner's anthem is No1 again

Three Lions back on top

Baddiel and Skinner's anthem is No1 again

comedyFrank Skinner and David Baddiel have a double reason to celebrate England’s World Cup victory last night.

For the penalty shoot-out triumph of Harry Kane’s boys has propelled Three Lions back to the top of the charts.

The anthem – first released for Euro ’96 – is currently the No.1 bestselling single on iTunes ahead of George Ezra and Clean Bandit.

Skinner and Baddiel get 25 per cent of the writing royalties for the song, with the rest going to Ian Broudie, of the Lightning Seeds, who wrote the music and also sang on the track.

But Skinner has said that despite the tune’s ubiquity, it has not made him millions.

‘With the first release I made something like 35 grand,’ he told an interviewer in 2014.

Of course the ‘30 years of hurt’ in the lyrics are now 52 years… but will this be the time to break that curse?
