No wonder medics laughed when comic Jodie Mitchell told them

Stand-up Jodie Mitchell has revealed that she recently contracted chlamydia - from a budgerigar.

In the sort of tall tale the GUM clinic must hear all the time, she said she picked up the infection after her flatmate's pet spat in her eye

'It was a long road to getting it diagnosed because it's quite rare,' she explained to fellow comic Sofie Hagen on her Made Of Human podcast. 'At the [eye] clinic, they didn't understand. They thought I'd had a really intense sexual experience.

'It took three weeks for them to be like "Oh, you got fucked over by a budgie". That's the medical term. Then they were like, "We can't help you at the eye hospital because no one gets eye chlamydia."'

Unfortunately, her condition wasn't taken all that seriously at the GUM clinic either.

'I'm fairly sure you have to agree to not laugh at people who come into sexual health clinics' she recalled. 'But apparently there's a sub-clause where it's fine if it's a budgie'.

Happily, she confirmed to Hagen that 'I'm clean now.'
