Is that really helping, Joe?
Lycett tries to win Commonwealth Games for Birmingham
Joe Lycett has lent his support to bring the Commonwealth Games to his home town of Birmingham in 2022.
But we’re not sure if his video – filmed with a papier-maché head of his ‘shy’ friend ‘Deborah’ – is entirely helpful.
Putting on a sinister voice he said: ‘Do, if you’re a judge of the Commonwealth Games, choose Birmingham because we’re here and we’d like to meet you.’
And not on the video, he told the Birmingham Mail that he had a personal reason for wanting the event in town.
‘One night in 2012, inspired by the London Olympic Games, I drank a few tequilas and attempted to pole vault down Kings Heath high street using an old broom. Long story short but I am "lucky to be alive" and "you could’ve done serious damage to your internal organs, Joe".
‘If Birmingham doesn’t host the 2022 Commonwealth Games then I suffered for nothing.’
Games judges will be in Birmingham on Monday and Tuesday.
