Colin Mochrie has emergency eye surgery

Whose Line? star cancels gigs

Whose Line Is It Anyway star Colin Mochrie is undergoing  emergency surgery for a detached retina.

The comic has postponed several performances of his show Hyprov, which combines improv and stage hypnotism, to give him time to recover.

A  statement posted on the show's official account yesterday said: 'Colin has been diagnosed with a detached retina and will be undergoing emergency eye surgery today. His medical team is optimistic about his full recovery, but he needs time to rest and heal.'

Many fans wished him well, with the message adding: 'Colin is incredibly grateful for your support and well wishes. He looks forward to being back on stage and sharing many more laughs with all of you in the near future.'

The NHS says surgery does not usually require an overnight stay, but says that in the 2 to 6 weeks after surgery, patients' vision may be blurred, they  may not be able to drive and may need to avoid flying.

Mochrie, 68, had been due to perform at  Niagara Falls this weekend.
