Free workshop for new South Asian comedians

Tie-in between London's Tara Theatre and Brown Sauce comedy clyb

Aspiring South Asian comedians are being offered a free one-day workshop to help hone their stand-up skills.

The event is being held at the Tara Theatre in Wandsworth, South London, as part of a new tie-in with comedy club Brown Sauce,  and will conclude with a showcase gig.

Club founder Sharlin Jahan said: ‘Starting out in the comedy world isn't easy, but with this partnership, we seek to change that by creating more spaces for the South Asian community.

‘The Comedy Lab is a fantastic chance for emerging South Asian comedians to shine and be part of a supportive community.’

Tara Theatre’s artistic director Abdul Shayek added: ‘ "Comedy has been such a crucial part of the diaspora. It’s a way for us to tell our story and laugh at ourselves.

‘Additionally, comedy allows us to point out the contradictions and challenges of institutional racism that sit at the heart of how the South Asian community has been treated. This is why we must support the next generation of South Asian comedians.’

The workshop is open to comics with less than two years’ experience and will take place on September 29.

Apply here by August 11.
