Last Of The Summer Wine's Pearl dies at 80

Juliette Kaplan had been fighting cancer

Juliette Kaplan, who played Last Of The Summer Wine  battleaxe Pearl Sibshaw for 25 years  has died at the age of 80.

Her agent, Barry Langford, sad that she had ‘ finally succumbed to the cancer she has bravely battled for so long’.

And he thanks fans for sending ‘their love and support to this fearless and supremely gifted actress’.

Kaplan appeared in 226 episodes of the show from 1985 to 2010, always trying to prevent husband Howard’s unlikely attempts to have an affair.

She also appeared in Coronation Street in 2015 as Agnes Tinker and had other roles in 

EastEnders, Brookside,  London's Burning and Doctors,

But it was Pearl as she was by far the best known, even appearing in a stage show written by Summer Wine creator Roy Clarke about the character's early life.
