A long-running joke

Paul Tonkinson and Rob Deering create a podcast for 100km race

Marathon-running comics Paul Tonkinson and Rob Deering are creating a new podcast aimed at competitors in this year’s 100km Race To The Stones event.

The 2,700 runners taking part in the endurance race across the North Wessex Downs and the Chilterns will be able to download the half-hour show from July 6.

Tonkinson and  Deering already have their own podcast,  Running Commentary, and the special episode was recorded on location last month.

In it, the pair share stories of running, discussion of how participants can ‘break the wall’, and their music tastes as they run past landmarks on the route, including the Avebury Stone Circle and Barbury Castle.

Kesah Trowell, from race sponsor  Dixons Carphone said: ‘I know from experience that hitting the wall in an ultra-marathon can result in a serious sense of humour failure. This is why we hope Paul and Rob’s unique light-hearted comical podcast will give participants a much-needed boost to lift them over the finish line’.

The podcast will be available from the Race to the Stones website  or the Running Podcast website.  The race takes place on  July 14 and 15.
