All the cast become mechanoids

TV channel Dave has released the first image from the new series of Red Dwarf XII, which is due to launch this autumn.

It is taken from an episode in which all the crew are turned into mechanoids.

The transformation required hours in make-up, with Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules and Chris Barrie saying they found a new respect for Kryten actor Robert Llewellyn.

’28 years of guilt, of calling him a big wuss,’ John-Jules said. ‘We literally went out bowing to [Rob], because it was amazing.

Charles added: ‘It was so uncomfortable, so hot, I thought I was crying at one point but I wasn’t, I was sweating through my eyes! Chris got ill wearing it.’
