Nanjiani's The Big Sick gets a London screening

International premiere for acclaimed comedy

A comedy movie based on the real-life courtship of Silicon Valley star Kumail Nanjiani is to receive its first international screening in London in June.

The Big Sick will be shown at the London Sundance Film Festival at Picturehouse Central on June 3 and 4

Nanjiani, who is also a stand-up, stars in the film as a Pakistani comic whose relationship with a graduate student Emily is threatened by cultural differences and a health crisis.

Holly Hunter and Ray Romano co-star as Emily's parents, with comics Bo Burnham and Kurt Braunohler also in the cast. The film is produced by Judd Apatow.

Nanjiani, wrote the screenplay with his wife Emily V. Gordon, based on their own experiences, with Zoe Kazan playing Emily on screen.

The Big Sick was first shown at the original Sundance festival in Utah where it was praised by critics. Variety‘s Geoff Berkshire called it 'a film that’s by turns romantic, rueful, and hilarious' and Vulture's Tomris Laffly said:  'This movie has empathy on its mind as much as comedy, and it’s simply a joy to see it excel at both.'
