More than 4.5million views on social media

Saturday Night Live UK have scored a major viral hit with their Nollywood version of Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo.

Using the chunky production values of the 1990s African film industry, Nigerian Wicked also featured Ayoade Bamgboye as Elphaba alongside Erivo’s Glinda travelling to LagOz to meet The Wizard (Hammed Animashaun).

The sketch has already racked up 1.7million views on YouTube, 1.6million on Instagram and 1.4million on TikTok. 

It was written by Bamgboye and directed by Will Farrell, who posted: ‘Finally achieved my dream of directing a Nigerian version of Wicked’ as he thanked ‘all the hundreds of other people who made this with us’.

Bamgboye added: 'I’m completely blown away by the response to Nigerian Wicked (LGBTQ). I simply must stress that a group of miraculous people put their all into this. I wrote the most unhinged thing I’ve ever imagined and Cynthia Erivo made such light work of it. I’ll need another six-12 months to process what it’s like to witness her craft up close,'

Erivo guest-hosted this weekend’s SNL UK - the last before it goes on hiatus before it returns in the new year.
