Recording comes as comic ends the show after two years touring

Josephine Lacey is to record her show Autism Mama, after touring it for two years. 

The stand-up will perform the show for the last time on September 20 at the Top Secret Comedy Club in London, recording the show for later release.

It draws on Lacey's experience as a single mother helping her autistic son through the early stages of puberty.

She says: ‘Although it was a very difficult and distressing time, some of the tools and ideas I was given sparked the idea for a show.

‘My aim was to create something funny and heartfelt that audiences would enjoy, but also leave having learnt something that may help within their own families or care facilities – or, for those who don't have a relationship with autism, offer a tiny insight into our world.’

The show, which began at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2024,  has toured London’s Soho Theatre and  venues across the UK and Ireland, and has been performed for care and support groups.

Lacey says she is self-financing a recording because ‘now feels like the right time to make my show accessible to everyone’.

She added: ‘Autism and puberty will forever be around, which means my show doesn't have a shelf life. My hope is that every time someone watches it, it will make them laugh, of course, but also help them or a loved one in some way.’
