Ten-week starring run in Oh, Mary!
Lolly Adefope is to star in Oh, Mary! on the London stage.
Her ten-week run in the comedy about First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln marks her debut on the West End stage.
Best known for her role in Ghosts and as a former Taskmaster contestant, Adefope also starred opposite Himesh Patel and Richard E. Grant in HBO superhero satire The Franchise. She will also soon be seen in Apple TV’s Prodigies, alongside Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri.
Adefope follows in the footsteps of Catherine Tate, whose three-month run as the tormented figure ended last month.
Running at the Trafalgar Theatre, Oh, Mary! is an outlandish pantomime-style spoof of the lives of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, set in the days leading up to the President’s assassination at Ford's Theatre in Washington DC.
The show portrays Mary as a temperamental alcoholic, stuck in an unhappy marriage with the deeply closeted President Lincoln and desperate to return to her past glory days as a cabaret star.
The original 2024 New York run of the show was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize for drama and nominated for five Tony Awards, winning two.
It transferred to London in December, with Mason Alexander Park taking the lead role. The Broadway run has featured guest stars, including Jane 30 Rock’s Krakowski, drag queen Jinkx Monsoon and Tituss Burgess from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Adefope’s run starts on September 28 and ends on December 5. Tickets are available here.
