Comedy pilot about a teen 'trapped in a dead-end town'

Laura Marcus – the star of Netflix’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed adaptation – is to make a Comedy Blap pilot for Channel 4.

The actor, who also played Jinx in Jack Whitehall’s Bad Education, will create and star in the short film titled F**k Ups.

According to Deadline, which broke the news, the teaser will revolve around teenage Miracle June Jones, a perfectionist forced to face the horrifying reality that even the most disciplined can mess up. 

The website says: ‘Trapped in her dead-end town for another year, Miracle must endure the one thing she’s spent her life avoiding: her relentlessly enthusiastic neighbour and self-appointed best friend, Lillian Cheeks.’

Marcus described F**ck Ups as an ‘adrenaline-fuelled love letter to being the lamest rats in town’.

The Blap also stars stage actor Molly Hewitt-Richards, Alexander Arnold, who played  Rich Hardbeck in Skins, Sophie Thompson from Detectorists and Mark Benton from Smoggie Queens.

The pilot is partially based on a short film Marcus made during lockdown, and she said: ‘To see it in a shiny new Channel 4 format is a bit of a fever dream.’

Blaps are seen as a way of piloting future full-series commissions, with We Are Lady Parts, Stath Lets Flats and Dead Pixels among the shows to have emerged from the strand.
