Shane Gillis has comedy's biggest ever gig
76,212 tickets sold
Shane Gillis has established a record for most tickets sold for a show by a solo comedian.
The American stand-up sold 76,212 tickets for last night’s gig at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
There has not previously been a Guinness World Record for most tickets sold – but there is one for biggest audience, currently held by Mario Barth, who performed for 67,733 people at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on July 12, 2008.
Gillis is certain to beat that, too, once the attendance at last night’s gig is officially confirmed.
Oddly, Guinness had already established a record for most tickets sold for a show by a solo female comedian, held by Japanese performer Naomi Watanabe, who sold 44,356 tickets for her set at the Tokyo Dome in February this year.
Gillis has sold more than a million tickets on his current tour, which has spanned 100 dates over two years, breaking many venue records.
The most tickets sold for a stand-up tour is 1,981,720 , achieved by ventriloquist Jeff Dunham for his Spark Of Insanity show, performed in 386 venues from September 2007 to August 2010.
