Series three to be the last, Aimee Lou Wood says
The third series of Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey’s comedy Daddy Issues is to be the last.
Co-star Sarah Hadland – who plays the boss of Wood’s character Gemma – let slip that the show was returning when she appeared on Saturday Kitchen in May.
Now the BBC has condirmed the news, with series three picking up 18 months from the end of the second, which ended with Malcolm – Morrissey – committing to stay with his daughter Gemma and his new granddaughter Sadie.
Wood said: ‘I’m so happy to be back with David and the brilliant Daddy Issues cast for one final time. Gemma and Malcolm are one of the funniest and sweetest comedy double acts on TV, and I’ve loved being a part of it.’
Daddy Issues was created by former stand-up Danielle Ward, who directs with The Inbetweeners' Damon Beesley, whose company Fudge Park makes the show.
Ward said: 'I'm thrilled we're getting to make a third and final series of Daddy Issues. The Moscrip’s have a special part in my heart and I'll be forever grateful to Aimee and David for bringing them to life in such a brilliantly funny way.'
Jon Petrie, the BBC’s outgoing director of comedy commissioning, added: ‘As Daddy Issues becomes a threenager, it’s been great seeing audiences take Gemma and Malcolm to their hearts. Danielle has created a brilliantly sharp, fearless comedy and we can’t wait to see the Moscrips take the next, slightly wobbly steps in life with a toddler.’
Filming on the six new half-hour episodes will take place in Stockport later this year.
In her TV appearance, Hadland said she would be filming the sitcom after she finishes her West End run of the comedy The Truth. The stage show, which also stars Ardal O'Hanlon, Stephen Mangan and Janie Dee, runs until September 12. (Review)
She said: ‘We're filming series three after we finish the play, kind of autumn time with lovely Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey and David Fynn, yes. Up north… up in Stockport. It’s a great show.’
It had previously been reported that Wood's other BBC Three comedy, Film Club, in which she co-stars with Nabhaan Rizwan, will not return for a second series.
