As character is set for a film comeback

Sacha Baron Cohen has been spotted at Wimbledon in the guise of Ali G.

The comic was seen in character in Centre Court for the men’s final on Sunday, with a Wimbledon-coloured tracksuit bearing the motif ‘Official Ganja Dealer’.

Security guards challenged him after he was reported to be offering cigarettes and drugs to children seated near him.

In footage posted to the official Ali G Instagram channel, the character points to guest of honour Prince William and explains to security :‘His brother, Prince Harry owes me 1,400 squid because I was his dealer at Eton. So if you could ask him kindly to Venmo me, or pay me in cash.’

The footage was captioned: ‘Checkdis, de cops at Wombledon invented charges after me tried to speak to Prince Will.I.am.’

Another clip explains that he’s at the men’s singles final which, ‘despite it’s name ain’t a party for gaylords – it’s like the World Cup for something called tennis, which is like a crap version of ping-pong.’

He added: ‘Them say tennis is better played on grass which is why I intend to sell as much of it while I is here.’

Baron Cohen’s outfit included a chunky gold necklace with a jewel-encrusted tennis ball pendant, gold trainers and a hat with the words ‘Ali Gear’ on the headband.

Last week, media blog The InSneider reported that Ali G would be back on the big screen for the first time in 24 years, with previous scenes shot in Oxfordshire last summer.

Baron Cohen, now 54, created Ali G in 1998 for Channel 4’s The 11 O’Clock Show, and he went on to front his own Channel 4 series and the 2002 film Ali G Indahouse. The comic retired the character in 2007, but then resurrected him in 2012 and 2014.
