Production starts on Colin From Accounts series 3

Bob Downe star joins cast

Production has started on the third season of hit Australian romcom Colin from Accounts.

The show will resolve the cliffhanger from series 2, in which Patrick Brammall’s character Gordon proposed to Harriet Dyer’s Ashley in the middle of their friends’ wedding party, to the stunned shock of all the other guests.

In a statement, the stars – who also created the series – said: ‘After the season 2 cliffhanger, it would be cruel not to show you all what happens next, and we can't wait for you to see it. Getting to make this show continues to be a total thrill for us, and we're pumpled (pumped & humbled) that people have enjoyed the first two seasons so much. That's what they say to our faces, anyway.’

Mark Trevorrow, best known for his comedy-cabaret alter-ego Bob Downe, is joining the cast along with actors Thomas Cocquerel and Nikki Shiels – although their roles have not yet been announced.

Production company Easy Tiger released this video of the table-read of the first script in the new series:

Returning cast members include Emma Harvie, Genevieve Hegney, Michael Logo, Helen Thomson, Darren Gilshenan, Virginia Gay, Annie Maynard and Tai Hara.

Lana Greenhalgh, director of scripted originals for Australian broadcaster Foxtel, said: ‘Colin From Accounts is a perfect example of how local stories can connect with audiences here and around the world. Patrick and Harriet lead a phenomenal cast.’

Executive producers Rob Gibson and Ian Collie of Easy Tiger Productions added that it was ‘pure joy’ to be making the show – whose title comes from the name the lead characters gave to an injured dog that brought them together.

The Sydney-based production is backed by Screen NSW, whose acting executive director called the comedy one of the state’s ‘greatest local IP [intellectual property] export stories’.

Both previous series of Colin From Accounts are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.

The series was nominated for a Bafta award last year in the international category, while it has amassed 19 nominations in Australia’s equivalent, the  AACTA awards.

Trent O’Donnell and  Madeleine Dyer will each direct four episodes of the new season.
