Big names set for new Battersea Park comedy festival

Joe Lycett, Sara Pascoe, Simon Amstell and others head to three-day event

A big-top comedy festival is to take over Battersea Park for three days this June, with a mix of established names and newer acts performing under a big top tent from June 5 to 7.

Joe Lycett, Sara Pascoe, Simon Amstell, Lucy Beaumont and Simon Brodkin head the bill, joined by Grace Campbell, Schalk Bezuidenhout, Abi Clarke and others drawn from the British and international comedy circuit.

The shows are structured around headline acts supported by smaller bills, each with a host. On Friday evening, Pascoe leads an all-female lineup including Desiree Burch, Felicity Ward and Ania Magliano, hosted by Gilli Apter.

Saturday afternoon features Lycett with Campbell, Huge Davies and Paddy Young, hosted by Chloe Petts, before character comic Brodkin takes the evening slot alongside Bezuidenhout, Travis Jay and Clarke.

Sunday brings Beaumont with Rachel Parris, Sophie Duker and Lewis Garnham, hosted by Sharon Wanjohi, followed by a closing show with Amstell, Christopher Hall and Catherine Bohart, hosted by Erika Ehler.

A separate Saturday afternoon show, produced with comedy promoters Wise Fools, features Nabil Abdulrashid, Kae Kurd and Ola Labib.

Family shows also feature across the weekend. Comedy Club 4 Kids, which has been running since 2005, offers child-friendly stand-up for ages six and up. Showstopper! The Kids Show, an improvised musical performance built entirely from audience suggestions, closes out the family programme on Sunday.

A festival garden with street food and bars will run throughout the weekend. The organisers are also planning comedy workshops in local Wandsworth schools.
