Lena Dunham confirms her romcom won't be returning

Lena Dunham’s rom-com Too Much will not be returning to Netflix, the creator has announced.

The ten-part series starred Megan Stalter as New Yorker Jessica, who starts a new life in London after a relationship break-up, where she meets musician Felix played by Will Sharpe.

It was loosely based on Dunham’s own experience of meeting her partner, Luis Felber in the UK – with Felber credited as co-creator.

However the show was not a hit,  spending just one week on the streamer’s top ten chart globally and attracting mixed reviews, with The Guardian calling it ‘cliche-ridden’ and a ‘total disappointment’.

Speaking at a panel event reported in the US trade press, Dunham said: ‘Of course I fell fully in love with Meg and Will’s dynamic and started imagining what the rest of their characters’ lives together could look like…

‘But as Luis and I sat with what we made, we realised we had told the story. It ends with a wedding. There’s even a little Easter egg, which is that within the final scene you can hear me yell "Cut!" We had done what we needed to do, and part of the job is knowing when to park it.’

The series also starred Richard E Grant, Rita Wilson, Emily Ratajkowski, Rhea Perlman and stand-up Leo Reich in his first major acting role, below.

Dunham has been working on a new romantic comedy film, Good Sex, which will star Natalie Portman as a couples’ therapist, and is co-writing the Broadway musical adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You.
