Andrew Sachs’s Fawlty Towers scripts go under the hammer

...along with some of his boring postcards

comedyAndrew Sachs’s old Fawlty Towers scripts are tipped to fetch more £5,000 at auction.

Six of the actor’s scripts from the hit sitcom are going under the hammer with estimates of up to £1,200 each.

They are from the episodes Basil the Rat, Communications Problems, The Kipper and the Corpse, The Psychiatrist, Waldorf Salad and Gourmet Night and include a number of handwritten notes.

Surrey-based auctioneers Ewbaks is selling them next week, along with other mementos from the actor, who played hapless Spanish waiter Manuel.

The auction also includes a collection of boring postcards – as Sachs and writer James Follett had spent 20 years building up a collection of dull images for possible inclusion in a book to be called The Yawn.
