Dru Cripps triumphs in 'make us laugh' challenge
Comic Dru Cripps has won £2,000 for making top YouTuber KSI laugh.
The influencer has been running a ‘make us laugh’ challenge on his hit channel – offering a £1,000 for anyone who can crack him up.
But Cripps – who freestyles a cheesy rap about orphans at the suggestion of KSI’s brother Deji – did so well the duo decided to double the prize.
The comic, who made his Edinburgh Fringe debut this year, said: ‘The room was clinically starkly lit with floodlights, there were more cameras than "audience". It was unwelcoming and cold – and the two brothers were sat extremely far away from me.
‘It was like a gong show in a hospital waiting room, or performing for your parents in the living room (if your parents absolutely hated you but loved having the big light on).
‘But I had nothing to lose, I was channeling pure clown, and I was spurred on by how awful the space set-up was and relished the challenge of plunging head first into the chance of bombing so that I could finally go home.’
The footage has been seen more than 3million times already, and Cripps said: ‘The impact online has been huge - thousands of comments coining me as "the orphan guy", I definitely played the space and not the material (despite not ever having any material) but I had a feeling that screaming about orphans was something KSI would enjoy.’
He also acknowledged his set was different from the ‘child fans practicing their shock/racist/heinous jokes’ that comprised much of his fellow contestants.
Here’s his performance:
