Gym-based comedy Peacock is dropped by the BBC

Gym-based sitcom Peacock will not be back for a third series, the BBC has confirmed.

It starred People Just Do Nothing’s Allan Mustafa as personal trainer Andy Peacock, who suffers a crisis of confidence when he is passed over for a promotion at his gym.

It was written by his Kurupt FM colleague Steve Stamp – who also appeared as Jonathan – alongside Ben Murray.

The cast also included Lucien Laviscount – who has gone on to greater fame as Alfie, a love interest for Lily Collins’ title character in Emily In Paris – as well as Thomas Gray, Callie Cooke, Susan Wokoma, Mandeep Dhillon, Sophia Di Martino and Pippa Hayward.

A short initial series of three episodes aired on BBC Three in April 2022, followed by six more episodes in June last year.

The show’s demise was first reported by The Sun, which quotes an unnamed source as saying: ‘There were huge hopes within the writing team that Peacock would get a third series. Like all comedies, they take a while to bed in but after nine episodes they thought the series got into its stride.

‘But unfortunately the BBC felt otherwise and it's now destined for the comedy scrapheap.’

The BBC said: ‘We are very proud of Peacock but, in order to make room for new comedy shows, we sometimes have to make difficult decisions and it won't be returning.

‘We would like to thank all those involved in the series and hope to work with the team in the future.’
