Sophie Willan: I'm going to be a mum

Alma's Not Normal comic expecting a baby boy in November

Sophie Willan has announced that she’s to become a mum.

The comedian behind Alma’s Not Normal broke the news of her pregnancy on Instagram yesterday.

She posted a video of her ultrasound scan and a picture of herself with partner Carniel F Levy – is a chef specialising in Caribbean food – and the caption: ‘We’re having a baby boy! Coming November 2025.

‘Our lives are about to change forever, in the most chaotic, joyful, and magical way… And yes, we’re already arguing about baby names.'

The news comes days after the Bolton-born comic won the Bafta for best scripted comedy for the second season of her BBC sitcom. Accepting her award last Sunday, she said: ‘I'm not allowed to swear and all I want to do is beep beep. This is so exciting, thank you very much. I just want to say they [the cast and crew] are flopping brilliant.’

Willan’s comedy colleagues including Sarah Millican, Grace Campbell and Harriet Kemsley were quick to congratulate her online.

Joanne McNally called it ‘unbelievably good news’,  Shaparak Khorsandi said, ‘what an adventure’  and Judi Love posted ‘Oh honey!!! Congratulations to you both. What joyful news.'

Willan previously dated fellow comic Jonny Pelham – and has told how they got together after having sex in the Blue Peter Garden in Salford.

She told Elis James and John Robins' BBC Radio 5 show last year: ‘I don't really like first dates, I think just get drunk with someone by accident, sleep with them and then see how it goes from there.

‘Something strange happened to me. I had seven Guinnesses. I looked across the table and thought, "he's actually quite hot" and pounced on him.

‘We had sex, in the evening, at MediaCity, in the Blue Peter Garden. Under a shrub.’

She said that they were interrupted by security guards who approached on Segways and said: ‘Hey, just, so you know, we can see you all on the CCTV.’

And she retold the story on Never Mind The Buzzcocks:
