Thames Clippers host their first comedy nights

London’s river buses are to host their first comedy nights.

Two sailings in the next couple of months will feature stand-ups performing as the clippers ferry the audience past London landmarks including Battersea Power Station, the Houses of Parliament, Tate Modern and Tower Bridge.

The services – which have a bar on board – depart from Embankment pier at 6:30pm, on Fridays October 4 October and November 8. Tickets cost £20 and are available to book now at uberboatbythamesclippers.com/comedy.

Comedians taking part include Tim FitzHigham, below, making a more comfortable journey on the Thames than he made in 2003, when he set a record for navigating 160 miles on the river in a paper boat.

The previous record was 40 miles – set in 1619 by Jacobean poet John Taylor, whose vessel was ‘kept half afloat by inflated animal bladders attached to the sides’ and using dried fish for oars.

Embankment pier has long been home to Boar Show Comedy, which takes place on the paddle steamer Tattershall Castle – however that remains permanently moored.

The line-ups for the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers gigs are are:

October 4: Ben Norris, Sarah Kendall, Tim FitzHigham

November 8: Mike Gunn, Jimmy McGhie, Michael Legge
