Meet the first heat winner of the Chortle Student Comedy Award 2024

Jade Kelly triumphs in Edinburgh

Jade Kelly won the first heat of this year’s Chortle Student Comedy Awards at the Monkey Barrel in Edinburgh last night.

The 29-year-old is studying a postgraduate diploma in education at Edinburgh University and describes her comedy as ‘a mixture of storytelling and making a fool of boys in the front row’.

Heat two takes place at the Alphabetti Theatre in Newcastle tonight, compered by Lauren  Pattison – who was a finalist in the competition back in 2015. Tickets are on sale here.

The competition - whose previous winners and finalists also include Joe Lycett, Phil Wang, Jamali Maddix, Ed Gamble and Chris Ramsey –  then visits St Andrews Student Association tomorrow.

Thanks for reading. If you find Chortle’s coverage of the comedy scene useful or interesting, please consider supporting us with a monthly or one-off ko-fi donation.
Any money you contribute will directly fund more reviews, interviews and features – the sort of in-depth coverage that is increasingly difficult to fund from ever-squeezed advertising income, but which we think the UK’s vibrant comedy scene deserves.
