Work set to start on Colin From Accounts series 2

Production had stalled over Hollywood writers strike

Production is to start on the second series of Colin From Accounts ‘in the coming months’.

Work on new episodes of the breakout Australian comedy had been put on hold because of the Hollywood writers’ strike, which was finally resolved last month.

Although the sitcom was not an American production, and so not covered by Writers Guild Of America union action, pausing work was ‘ the right thing to do’ according to Alison Hurbert-Burns, executive director of the Binge streaming platform that originate the hit show.

The comedy was created and written by its stars Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, with the latter being a WGA member. Dyer has also said she wondered if working during the strike might have an effect on her joining in future.

News that production on Colin From Accounts will begin in Sydney soon was reported by Deadline as Binge announced its new slate of programming.

The first series charted the age-gap romance that developed after  Dyer’s character, Ashley, flashes at Brammall’s Gordon in the street, causing him to run over a Border Terrier. They reluctantly team up to look after the injured dog, who they name Colin From Accounts.

Asked about storylines for series two, Hurbert-Burns said: ‘We left season one with them wondering if they could get Colin back, so there will be a journey to see how our heroes get reunited — you can definitely say that.’

Colin From Accounts  aired on BBC Two and iPlayer in the UK, attracting an  average audience of 2.2million per episode.

The corporation has already bought the rights to series two, with its head of programme acquisition, Sue Deeks, saying : ‘BBC viewers have been completely charmed by this award-winning romantic comedy, and have taken Ashley, Gordon and unlikely cupid Colin to their hearts.

‘We are so delighted that there is going to be another series of the totally engaging Colin From Accounts for us all to enjoy.’

Brammall and Dyer – also a real-life couple – have previously said: ‘Thank you to everybody around the world who has enjoyed the show, we can’t wait to bring you all a second season. Stay tuned for more shenanigans.’

The pair previously starred in No Activity, a comedy series about detectives on a stakeout, also currently available on iPlayer.
