After Life wins a Tric Award

Ceremony also honours GB News, Nigel Farage and Piers Morgan

Ricky Gervais’s After Life has been named best streaming show at the Tric Awards.

The ceremony also honoured GB News, its presenter Nigel Farage, Piers Morgan and right-wing radio host Julia Hartley-Brewer.

Farage was booed at the Television and Radio Industries Club bash, after taking the best news presenter,  accolade over more established names such as  Eamonn Holmes and Susanna Reid.

The awards are chosen by a public vote and as he picked up his award former UKIP leader Farage told the audience: ‘Had the industry had their say, I very much doubt I would have won.

And as he began to be heckled, he declared: 'Please keep the abuse coming, because it says a lot more about you than about me.’

As the chorus grew he said: ‘Any idea of competition and you should shout, you should be frightened because you will lose your jobs.'

The Tric awards do not have a comedy category but Gogglebox won the entertainment award, The Chase won best game show and its host Bradley Walsh won TV personality.
