Jordan Gray makes ITV sitcom about a trans woman

Transaction to co-star Nick Frost

Jordan Gray is making an ITV sitcom about a transgender supermarket worker.

Transaction builds on the series of shorts of the same name that the comic made for Comedy Central in 2020 and co-star Nick Frost as her boss.

Gray told The List magazine that her character, Liv, is ‘an affirmative action hire who's happy to make that everybody's else's problem’.

When the shorts launched she said the character was ‘a manipulative but charismatic asshole’ – and ‘basically me without any self-awareness’.

It will be the first British sitcom to feature a trans lead actor since BBC Two's groundbreaking Boy Meets Girl, starring Rebecca Root, ran in 2015 and 2016.

Transaction is being made by Stolen Picture, the production company Frost set up with Simon Pegg, and will co-star Thomas Gray as Liv’s best friend.

She told the The List the ITV commission was the only reason she could afford to perform her solo show Is It A Bird?, at the Edinburgh Fringe this month.

Here’s Gray performing an extract from that show at Chortle’s Fast Fringe.
