Is Peter Kay ready to return to stand-up?
Peter Kay could be back with a new stand-up show, his friend Jason Manford has indicated.
The Phoenix Nights star famously cancelled a huge 14-month tour in 2017, just days after announcing it, citing 'unforeseen family circumstances’.
Now Manford has excited fans by hinting that Kay could soon be back on the road.
He told Dublin radio station FM104: 'He's great, Pete. We've known each other a long time, it must be 25 years. It's been a hell of a ride.
‘He's just an absolute legend isn't he? What a treasure. Hopefully back himself soon, doing stand-up, so keep your eye out for his tour. Not that he needs you to buy a ticket as much as I do.’
Kay did return to the stage last month, DJing at his Dance For Life show in aid of Cancer Research.
His last stand-up appearances were as part of The Tour That Doesn't Tour Tour… Now On Tour, which started as a residency at the Manchester Arena and wrapped in late 2011.
When he cancelled the Have Gags, Will Travel tour he said: ‘I'm sure you'll understand my family must always come first.'
He has since made occasional charity appearances, some to raise funds for research into mitochondrial disease, as well as a Q&A last summer to help a brain cancer patient raise money for experimental treatment.
Kay, 48, made an audio episode of his comedy Car Share during lockdown as well as making a brief appearance on the BBC’s Big Night In fundraiser.
The comic has also revealed he is writing a third volume of his memoirs – having last year committed the first, the Sound Of Laughter, to audioboook.
Kay and Manford have been friends since working the Manchester comedy circuit together in the 1990s.
