The Great American Joke Off heading for The CW network

British and American comics are to appear in a new US panel show based on quickfire gags.

Episodes of The Great American Joke Off are to be filmed in London next month for the CW network.

The show has been created by the makers of Mock The Week and Whose Line is It Anyway? – the long-running  improv show that is also broadcast on The CW.

It is billed as ‘celebrating the world of gags, wisecracks and one-liners,’ with producers adding: ‘Each show blends the finest comedians from the UK and USA and sets about testing their skills as they compete across a succession of quickfire rounds designed to generate as many laughs as possible.’

Mock The Week and Whose Line is It Anyway? were created by Mark Leveson and Dan Patterson – with the latter now running Angst Productions, which makes the shows.

The Great American Joke Off is being filmed in front of a live audience at Television Centre in Shepherds Bush, West London, on May 21 and 26. Free audience tickets are available here.

The line-up, host and precise format of the show has not yet been revealed.
