Jerry Seinfeld's TV mum dies at 93

Liz Sheridan also starred in ALF

Liz Sheridan, who played Jerry’s mum Helen on Seinfeld, has died at the age of 93.

She passed away in her sleep from natural causes, five days after her birthday – and two weeks after Estelle Harris, who played George’s mother on the show, died, also aged 93.

Seinfeld paid tribute on Twitter saying: ‘Liz was always the sweetest, nicest TV mom a son could wish for. Every time she came on our show it was the coziest feeling for me. So lucky to have known her.’

And Jason Alexander, who played George, added: ‘Oh my Lord, just learning of the passing of Liz Sheridan. She was as gracious and graceful a person and actress as you’ll ever meet. Fascinating life. Wonderful lady. Rest well.’

Sheridan was also known for playing nosey neighbour, Mrs. Ochmonek, on 1980s comedy ALF and one of her last film roles was in 2009, when she and fellow octogenarian Andy Griffith shared a sex scene in Play The Game.

She rose to fame in a string of Broadway hits in the 1970s, including Happy End with Meryl Streep.
