C4 to show Volodymyr Zelenskyy's satire show

Servant Of The People airs from Sunday

Channel 4 is to air  Servant Of The People – the comedy series which starred Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a fictional Ukrainian President before he became the real deal.

In the 2016 satire he played a high-school history teacher who rose to power on the back of a viral video that showed him ranting against government.

Zelenskyy then formed a party also called Servant Of The People and in a case of life imitating art,  led a successfully challenged sitting President Petro Poroshenko using an almost entirely virtual campaign.

Channel 4 will air three episodes of Servant of The People at 10:35pm this Sunday. Series 1 and 2 will then be available on All4 at a later date.

The broadcaster is also airing the fast-turnaround documentary special Zelenskyy: The Man Who Took on Putin at 6.45pm.

Ian Katz, Channel 4's chief content officer said: 'In the space of a few weeks Volodymyr Zelenskyy has become one of the most admired and speculated about men in the world and broadcasting our current affairs special, Zelenskyy: The Man Who Took On Putin and Servant Of The People across Sunday night will give viewers access to deep insight into how he shot to political prominence, the foundations of his popular appeal and his intuitive grasp of how to exploit both traditional and social media.

'The battle in Ukraine is as much an information war as a military one and these two programmes will show that Zelenskyy was a formidable information warrior long before he was a war leader.'

Servant Of The People  was made by Zelenskyy’s own production company, Kvartal 95, and ran for three seasons.

Swedish television group Eccho Rights picked up the international rights and licensed it to Channel 4. Managing partner Nicola Söderlund called it ‘a fascinating, important and historic piece of television’.
