BBC orders new comedy from Grimes and McKee

NI show based in a GAA sports and social club

The BBC has ordered new comedy from Northern Irish double act Grimes and McKee.

The show, as yet untitled, revolves around the fictitious GAA sports and social club, St Mungo’s.

It is currently in production by Long Story TV, and will air on BBC One in Northern Ireland later this spring.

The duo – Conor Grimes and Alan McKee – have been described as ‘bordering on comic genius’ by the Irish Times and were behind the comic play History Of The Troubles (Accordin’ To My Da!), which they co-wrote with Martin Lynch.

The broadcaster has also confirmed the return of The Paddy Raff Show for a new four-part series later this month, with the return of characters including Granny Raff, Father Pat and Nigel.

And new comedy sketch show Dry Your Eyes, from the Hole in the Wall Gang, stars on Monday on BBC One Northern Ireland at 10.35pm. Performers taking part include Niamh McAllister, Michael Stranney, Bernadette Brown, Diona Doherty and Cailum Carragher.

Long-running satirical show Give My Head Peace also returns at 10.35pm tomorrow; with panel show The Blame Game making a comeback later this year hosted by Tim McGarry, with panellists Diona Doherty, Neil Delamere and Colin Murphy.

Eddie Doyle, head of content commissioning at BBC Northern Ireland said: "We have a wealth of local comedy acting and writing talent on these shores and we are delighted to be able to offer viewers a rich mix of comedy favourites together with developing new material featuring some familiar and new faces.’
