Jeff Innocent wins comedy's biggest prize

£10,001 victory in British Comedian of the Year

Jeff Innocent has won the biggest prize in UK comedy.

He scoops £10,0001 after triumphing at the final of the British Comedian of the Year competition at London's Comedy Store tonight.

The prize is £1 more than the Edinburgh Comedy Award.

The contest is described as the 'FA Cup of comedy' because it's open to established comedians as well as newcomers  who are normally the focus of such competitions.

Andy Askins was in second place and Ninoa Benjamin third.

But Innocent said the prize would be shared among all finalists.

They also comprised: George Zach,  JoJo Sutherland, Lindsey Santoro, Mike Gunn, Scott Bennett and Stephen Grant.

The competition is organised by The Stand-Up Club, which runs comedy nights across London – including at the Comedy Pub just a few doors down from the Store.
