Bill Bailey wins Strictly

'It feels surreal, extraordinary and wonderful.'

Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse have been crowned the winners of this year's Strictly Come Dancing.

At 55, the comedian became the oldest ever contestant to take home the Giltterball trophy.

On being announced as winner Bailey said: 'It feels surreal, extraordinary and wonderful.

'I never thought we would get this far. I never thought we'd get to the final.

'I've had the most extraordinary teacher and the most extraordinary dancer.

'Someone who has believed in me right from the beginning. She found something in me and turned me into this - into a dancer. Thank you Oti.'

Oti also became the first professional dancer to win the show two years in a row.

She said: 'I think you are amazing, remarkable Bill Bailey. You put your heart into everything and your soul into everything.

'You are in your own world, but I love your world and always want to be a part of you.

'Thank you for being a friend and father figure to me, a brother... and for this', as she pointed at the  trophy.

Judges gave the couple a score of 88 out of a possible 90 from their three dances tonight: a showdance to Queen's The Show Must Go On and reprisals of their  street dance to Rapper's Delight from The Sugarhill Gang and Talk To The Animals by Bobby Darin from earlier in the series.

Rivals Maisie Smith and HRVY also achieved the same score, with Jamie Laing on 84. However, the decision was the audience's alone, and they voted Bailed the winner.

In an interview yesterday, the comedian told how he didn't want to be 'the light relief' bringing comedy but little dancing ability  to the show.  'There, you see, you doubters, you thought I’d be the joke contestant,' he said.
