Matt Lucas to front new Channel 4 show

Written by Harry Hill

Matt Lucas is to front a new Channel 4  comedy entertainment series written by Harry Hill.

Reasons To Be Cheerful will look at how people are entertaining themselves during lockdown, and run for six half-hour episodes from April 26.

It will feature comedians, TV personalities, musicians, sports stars and members of the public, all from the safety of his own homes, as well as new sketches.

Director of programmes Ian Katz said: ‘After weeks of relentlessly grim news and being cooped up at home, Britain desperately needs a dose of fun.’

Lucas has become one of the stars of the lockdown thanks to his homemade videos and his song Thank You Baked Potato, which has been raising money for Feed NHS.

The show is being made by Nit TV, Hill’s independent production endeavour.

Channel 4 has also today announced Mo Gilligan’s All Star Happy Hour, again to be made from people's homes.

The broadcaster's head of entertainment Phil Harris said:   ‘I’ve been really proud of how our team, and the sector, have responded in testing times. These commissions showcase great talent, quick-thinking and bags of humour at a time when we need it most.’
