180! Mel Giedroyc joins darts comedy

Play being developed by top West End producer

Mel Giedroyc has joined the cast of a Fringe comedy play about darts being developed by a top West End producer, Chortle can reveal

The comic and former Bake Off presenter is to take part in a work-in-progress performance of Darts Wives, a show from comedy double act Gavin & Gavin.

She will play Trina, a DWAG (Darts Wife and Girlfriend) as well as Tel, a World Championship-level darts player from London.

The show was first performed at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe (review), but since then ‘the script has visited a good plastic surgeon’  and is now being developed by PW Productions, the company behind The Woman In Black and Nigel Slater’s Toast, among others.

They are staging a run-through featuring Giedroyc in the intimate Museum of Comedy in London on October 9.

As well as sisters Lauretta and Sharon Gavin, the cast also includes Tonya Kerins.

The producers say: ‘Celebrating the camaraderie of the women behind the scenes, this raucous show exposes the boisterous cut throat shenanigans leading up to the Darts World Championships. If four women pretend to be four fellas talking about darts does it still pass the Bechdel Test?’
