...as a character called Derek

Tommy Cannon is to appear in Emmerdale.

The 81-year-old comedian announced on Twitter that he  would be playing a character called Derek in the long-running show.

He wrote: ‘Excited to be able to announce that I’m doing a brief stint as "Derek" in  @emmerdale!! Spending some time in the dales #Emmerdale.’

No other news about the role has been revealed, and he’s not expected to appear on screens for a while.

His 1980s double-act partner Bobby Ball has appeared in many comedy acting roles, including Not Going Out, Last Of The Summer Wine and Mount Pleasant.
