Comedy festival evacuated as storm batters marquee
A festival in Norwich was evacuated last night as a massive thunderstorm battered Norfolk.
Thunder, lightning and torrential rain forced organisers of the marquee-based Laugh in the Park to pull the plug after just two acts.
Headliner Chris Rasmes posted on Twitter: So so sorry to everyone at the Laugh in the park Festival tonight. Unbelievable how that storm came in. I was literally the only act who couldn’t do their set... and the crowd sounded amazing! I’ll get Norwich added to the 20/20 tour ASAP. Get home safe.’
And audience member Gerri Scott posted: ‘Gutted to have to leave @redcardcomedy Laugh in the Park early tonight because of a massive electrical storm overhead. Didn’t feel particularly safe taking cover in a marquee so made a break for the pub. ‘Now soaked, feel sorry for organisers who can’t control the weather.’
Video posted online by organisers Red Card Comedy shows a barman sitting on another’s shoulders to try to shift the huge amount of water that had gathered on the roof of the beer tent, causing it to sag severely.

They are offering ticket-holders free entry to any of their Red Card Comedy Club nights as a ‘thank-you for your good humour and understanding though last night’s storm’.
