Friends is NOT leaving Netflix in the UK

...but America is not so lucky

Friends is to disappear from Netflix – but not in the UK.

The streaming giant is to lose the classic 1990s sitcom from next year, when WarnerMedia, which owns the rights, launches its own rival service.

But HBO Max – which will host all 236 episodes – will only be available in America.

A spokesman for Netflix in the UK confirmed to Chortle: ‘This only applies to the US. It won’t affect the UK service.’

The reassurance comes after the Twitter feed for Netflix in the US announced: ‘The One Where We Have To Say Goodbye. We’re sorry to see Friends go to Warner’s streaming service at the beginning of 2020 (in The US). Thanks for the memories, gang.’

WarnerMedia Entertainment  chairman Robert Greenblatt said HBO Max would feature original programming, ‘exciting acquisitions, and the very best of the Warner Bros. libraries, starting with the phenomenon that is Friends.’
