Famalam gets a third series

Plus a Christmas special for BBC's black-led sketch show

BBC Three sketch show Famalam is to return for a third series and a one-off Christmas special.

The news comes as the second series ends its BBC One run at 10.35pm tonight.

Producer Akemnji Ndifornyen said: ‘Going for a three-peat! Excited to bring this beast back for another side splitting run! Third time’s the charm!’

Earlier this year,  Ndifornyen won a Bafta Craft Award, while cast member Samson Kayo has received both Baffa and RTS Award nominations.

Dominated by black talent, the cast also includes Vivienne Acheampong, Gbemisola Ikumelo, John MacMillan, Tom Moutchi  and Roxanne Sternberg.

Famalam stemmed from a BBC Two pilot in 2017, with two series of four episodes following last year and this.

The BBC’s comedy chief  Shane Allen said: ‘Famalam goes from strength to strength in keeping the modern-day sketch show flag flying high with its super-talented cast, pin-sharp social commentary and ideas that poke fun in all directions.'

The Christmas special will be a mix of new sketches and ones from the previous series,
