Timewasters set for US remake

...with LL Cool J

Timewasters is set for an American remake with rapper LL Cool J.

The sitcom's second series – which revolves around a jazz band who travel back in time – returned to ITV2 on Monday.

Star and creator Daniel Lawrence Taylor is set to be an executive producer on the American remake alongside Cool J, real name James Todd Smith.

The comic's publicist told Chortle: 'A US version of Timewasters is in early development, which will be exec produced by LL Cool J and Big Talk Productions for CBS Studios.'

No further details have been disclosed. But Taylor, who stars alongside Samson Kayo, Adelayo Adedayo and Kadiff Kirwan in the comedy, and writes with Barunka O'Shaughnessy, travelled to Los Angeles to meet the rapper earlier this year.

Cool J 'wanted to make a guest appearance in this series as well, in the third series, so fingers crossed' Taylor told Radio 4's Loose Ends.

'I'll be an executive producer, so I'll chip in when I need to chip in. I'm excited' he added.

Although a third series is yet to be formally announced, Taylor has already begun developing further storylines.

Timewasters' first series, which saw the band travelling to 1926, only achieved modest ratings, averaging 290,000 viewers.

But it was Bafta-nominated for best scripted comedy and was well received by critics.

The second series is set in 1958 and features Anna Chancellor, Daniel Rigby and Only Fools and Horses The Musical star Tom Bennett, who plays legendary jazz club owner Ronnie Scott.
