US comedy to end after 12 seasons

The Big Bang Theory is to end in May, at the end of its 12th series,  makers have announced.

In a joint statement, the CBS network producers Warner Bros. TV and executive producer Chuck Lorre confirmed that show would be ending after a record-breaking 279 episodes.

‘We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.’

The final season will launch in the States on Monday, September 24  before moving to its regular Thursday-night time slot  later that week.

A staple of E4's schedule in the UK, the sitcom stars Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch.
