DA finds 'insufficient evidence' against White Gold star

White Gold and Gossip Girl star  Ed Westwick will not face charges of sexual assault, the Los Angeles County District Attorney has announced.

The actor had been under investigation after three women alleged he had assaulted them.

But the DA’s office said today that two of the witnesses  ‘were not able to provide information that would enable the prosecution to prove either incident beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecution on those two incidents is declined due to insufficient evidence.’

And they could not make contact with the third.

Kristina Cohen publically caused Westwick of rape in November 2017, prompting the BBC to halt filming on the second series of White Gold, in which he plays shady double glazing salesman Vincent Swan. Written by Inbetweeners co-creator Damon Beesley, it co-stars Joe Thomas and James Buckley, also from The  Inbetweeners.

The BBC also dropped the actor from its adaptation of Agatha Christie's Ordeal by Innocence.

Westwick always denied the claims, which he said were ‘provably untrue’.

He wrote on Twitter at the time the allegations were made: ’It is disheartening and sad to me that as a result of two unverified and provably untrue social media claims, there are some in this environment who could ever conclude that I have had anything to do with such vile and horrific conduct. I have absolutely not, and I am co-operating with the authorities so that they can clear my name as soon as possible.’
